Podcasters of the world unite!

Time to democratize and commercialize

The democratization and commercializing of the podcast is upon us. It transcends generations, political affiliation (thank goodness), and subject matter.  It’s becoming the go-to medium for our likes, the fuel for our desire to learn more, and the perfect place, simply, for entertainment. How do we stop the commercial efforts of podcasters everywhere from becoming similar to the music industry? Podcasting is clearly here to stay and represents the one of greatest growth medium of our time, yet we put our hard work and intellect into the hands of sites that merely provide a podcast player and monetize our traffic and data without fair compensation creator. Our content is not created solely for the financial benefits of others.

Today’s discovery

Hard to believe in a world of personal digital assistants, AI, and smart playlist curation, but listeners are still finding new podcasts through word-of-mouth and friends. At the end of all podcasts, the line is no more than “find us wherever you listen to podcasts.”   It’s 2020 and I find it hard to believe that this is the best we can do. Whether your goal is listeners, data collection or the outright sale of a good or service, a passive approach to your audience hands over the market to Apple, Spotify, and Pandora.  Just ask your favorite musician how that is working out for them? It isn’t!  Given that the overwhelming majority of us are not Michelle Obama or Joe Rogan, we are simply filler for a content extension from music and video, to podcasts.  For those building podcast aggregation site—save your efforts, the game is over. Apple, Pandora and Spotify do not need rollups. Look at what happened to satellite radio after Sirius paid $100 million to Howard Stern!

Your content, your audience, your commercialization

How do you gain control of your audience and commercialization? Look at YouTubeTV: its success is driven by indexing and organizing the service to make it searchable like a cable TV guide, versus its prior iteration that required the audience to know what they were looking for.

With its new guide - all of a sudden - the wealth of content is easily searchable to all that visit.  The same needs to occur for podcasters. It’s time to make your content searchable online without sending the audience to other commercial domains. Is your content indexed, tagged, navigable, or searchable within your own digital domain?   Is the only place a listener can find you is “where ever they listen to podcasts? “Can that be what is best for you and your podcast content?  The path we are on as an industry will commoditize us the same way premium TV networks have been by the cable companies.

Everyone and every entity can be their own broadcast network

The tools to become you own broadcast network are available in many forms.  We no longer need networks, satellites or cable programming. Podcast content can be shared, in bite-sized clips, across social and digital media, like electronic breadcrumbs. These “digital bread crumbs” are the next short form medium—kind of like an audio tweet.  Why tweet when you can clip an audio segment and share at will?  No need to be limited to 280 characters when you pick and choose key clips, audio or transcribed, to deliver your message wherever your audience may be.

Best of all, if indexed and tagged to make your content searchable, the audience can be directed straight to your domain instead of through a content aggregator.

Marketing content, goods and services

Record labels, sports teams/leagues/players and pundits, movie studios, book publishers, speakers’ bureaus, consulting firms, and businesses can all use the power of podcasting to achieve their audience and commercial monetization goals.  Imagine a cable guide equivalent on all of your websites! With many of the traditional modes of marketing shut down, the intelligent broadcasting of podcast content can and will be efficient, targeted, and profitable. Broadcast with the greatest simplicity, control, and flexibility. Change your clips to support your goals, not the goals of others.

Podcasters need apply

We are QlipCast, a broadcast platform for podcasters looking to control their own assets and an app, to aid consumers with defining what they are interested in listening to, and delivering that content to them in short, transcribed audio segments. Please download our app at https://apple.co/2p7xumr.

Most Importantly, we are looking for a small number of strategic partners to launch our platform while greatly aiding in the marketing and monetization of your key audio assets.  We want to prove the power of our platform by building your podcast viewership and helping you achieve your marketing goals.
